Your first gynae exam

Before you start any method of contraception, either at this first appointment or a follow-up appointment, you will be given a full medical and the doctor will take your own medical history and as much of your family history as you know.
Unfortunately, just like any other exam, there are a lot of these questions to be answered. This can make you feel as though you are being grilled like a sardine, but don't get hot and bothered. The doctor needs the answers in order to give you the best medical advice.

Here are just a few of the questions you will be asked.

How old were you when your periods started?
How long is the gap between periods?
Do you have light, medium or heavy periods?
Do you use pads, tampons or both?
On which day did your last period start?
Have you ever been pregnant?
