Your first gynae exam Before you start any method of contraception, either at this first appointment or a follow-up appointment, you will be given a full medical and the doctor will take your own medical history and as much of your family history as you know. Unfortunately, just like any other exam, there are a lot of these questions to be answered. This can make you feel as though you are being grilled like a sardine, but don't get hot and bothered. The doctor needs the answers in order to give you the best medical advice.
Here are just a few of the questions you will be asked.
- How old were you when your periods started?
- How long is the gap between periods?
- Do you have light, medium or heavy periods?
- Do you use pads, tampons or both?
- On which day did your last period start?
- Have you ever been pregnant?
