You normally lie on an examination table which has a raised head-rest and special foot-rests, which are level with the table, to put your feet in. This may feel a little awkward at first, you soon get used to the routine. Whether you are having a Pap smear, a check for STIs or being examined because you may be pregnant, the routine is very similar. The doctor examines you internally and externally. It's not painful and it's over in a few minutes. When you have had your medical, discussed which method of contraception you're going to try, the nurse or doctor will give you full instructions on how to use it. |
